This is my third portable Bluetooth speaker by JBL, the other two being the Flip 4's shown in the picture as well. I bought this one after being very happy with the two Flips, and very impressed with their quality of sound, versatility, utility, convenience, and ruggedness. The Xtreme 2 is all of that, in a bigger package with more features! I was expecting it to be a little bit louder (and the volume isn't as loud unplugged as it is plugged in), but it still rocks out.Beautiful sound quality once again, with pretty impressive range, and nice clear bass sound that doesn't overpower the mids and highs. When paired up with my two Flips it's even better and more dynamic, plus i can put these speakers anywhere creating a kind of surround sound. Pretty cool. JBL says you can't pair more than two speakers together in Stereo Mode, but I found that if you get the two smaller speakers playing in Stereo Mode and only then power up the Xtreme, and then press the Connect+ button it'll start playing, while the other two remain in Stereo Mode, essentially as a center channel. Pretty cool, and the sound is wonderful! Much better than having them all in Party Mode. Unfortunately when done in this backdoor manner the Xtreme 2 doesn't show up in the Connect+ app, but that's not really a big deal. I'm hopeful that JBL will incorporate that feature in future updates of the Connect+ app. Ideally I would like the ability to assign left, right, or center channel to each individual speaker. The Connect+ app is the weak spot of these products. It's not very user friendly, sometimes unclear, and doesn't have many features. Along with adding Stereo Mode for more than two speakers, an EQ, and a volume control and indicator in the app would be really helpful. But the app alone isn't enough to sour me on these speakers. Hell, I've just recently ordered a Pulse 3 to add to the mix, and can't wait to see what it adds to this system.Overall these products are nothing short of excellent! I can set them up in my home as a system, or take one, two, or all three with me on the go! I haven't tested the waterproof of the Xtreme 2, but I have seen videos of them submerged in water, or floating in a pool, and i have had one of my Flips out on my kayak where it's been drenched and kept right on playing, so I do have full confidence that this one is just as durable. All of them, including the Xtreme 2 with its carry strap, are super potable and convenient. I envision adding another Xtreme 2 to my collection in the future, especially if JBL improves the app. In the meantime I'm looking forward to adding that Pulse 3 to the mix, and maybe another...

The JBL Xtreme 2 has come in very useful over the month I’ve now had it for. I have noticed it is a little quieter than the original JBL Xtreme at max volume. I’ve watched some YouTube videos about it and they explain how because the drivers are bigger, the speaker uses more energy. But JBL didn’t want to make a new (larger) battery for the speaker, and they didn’t want the new speaker to have a worse battery life than the old one (15 hours) so they just reduced its peak performance. They have already done one update to the speaker however that made it louder at max volume, and I expect more to follow as more people buy the speaker and complaine about the same issue. Ignoring that though, the speaker is (e)xtreme(ly) clear and has amazing sounding base. It does not get any less clear the louder it gets. If it wasn’t for the max volume issue, I would give this speaker a 5/5, but because of it I gave it a 4/5.

This thing traveled with me to our wedding in Mexico. It blasted tunes from sun up to sun down on the beach, got into a few rain storms, survived baggage handlers and still pumps the jams! If you're looking for a durable, LOUD bluetooth player that plays with incredibly crisp and clear sound quality...this is the one. I was surprised at the loudness of a single one of these and then found out that you can link them together... buy 2, link them and you could host a house party your neighbors are sure to love.

I love this speaker. It’s worth every penny crystal clear sound, battery that last forever, waterproof, good bass, and most important portable. If music is the soundtrack to your life like it is mine what more could you ask for!

I received mine about 4 hours ago and immediately put it to the test. I have a large family room...36x28 with a 14ft ceiling. I placed the Xtreme 2 on the fireplace mantle, which sits dead center of the long wall. Pairing with my Galaxy S7 was seamless, and within a few minutes I had my test music playing. I run sound for bands that come to town and some local bands and have been doing it for years, so I know what sound is supposed to sound like. My go to for setting up a system is Steely Dan's Aja. For me, its the closest thing to a white noise generator you can get and enjoy listening to it. The mix is flawless. So....after a few minutes tweaking the EQ in my phone, how have it dialed in. The bass is incredible, almost overpowering, and the high bass / low mids were lacking. Having a simple EQ on my phone, I pulled back the 60 and 150 Hz bands, and increased the 400 and up bars. The plot looks like staris, with a ski ramp at the high end. The room is big...1008 square feet and over 14000 cubic feet. This little box fills the room! Does it get as loud and punchy as my Bose 901s? No. Is it as clear and balanced as my vintage Bozaks? No. But for what it is, it is incredible.Mine came with the 1.2 firmware, and from all I can gather on the interwebz, the later updates detract from what this speaker can do. Its up to you to update or not, but this guy is not going to change a thing. Except for buying another one...yeah, its that good.

After firmware update sound quality was drastically better. I was torn between the xtreme and xtreme 2 but sounds quality is much better with the xtreme 2. It’s worth the money.

I have 2 of the original Extreme, wanted to get the Extreme 2 so I could use connect plus to link my 2 Charge 3’s. Cosmeticly very nice, waterproof, but sound is not much different the the original extreme, and it’s $100 more. Actually the max volume is less then the original, as JBL added more powerful drivers and didn’t want to use a bigger battery so they could could still say “15 hour battery life “. If you want full volume it has to be plugged in. It’s a portable speaker, I don’t want to leave it plugged in to get full performance. I am a JBL fan, I have 2, Charge 2+, 3, Charge 3’s, 2, Extremes, 1 Extreme 2, 2, Flip 4’s, 1 Flip 3. JBL, please give us a firmware update for the Extreme 2 to get full performance on battery, I would rather have performance than a little more battery life.
